Are there any stretches I can do to work into a split (side and front) while standing up? I have carpet...?

I stretch out into splits while holding my turnout (front) in ballet. Since I have carpet at home there is not much sliding and definitely no barre to help me down gently. Are there any standing stretches I could use. Also, should i work on front splits or side splits first?

The equipment I have to use is all basic living room and dining room furniture, a large swiss ball, yoga mat, and a boyfriend if needed.

Thanks! Are there any stretches I can do to work into a split (side and front) while standing up? I have carpet...?
The pigeon posture for yoga should do well for this! This stretch is excellent for preparing your leg and thigh muscles for doing splits!!!Are there any stretches I can do to work into a split (side and front) while standing up? I have carpet...?
you could try the needle up against the wall. it's like a split on the wall.

put your left or right foot on the floor--heel against the wall. then lift the opposite leg high in the air. and ';push'; yourself against the wall to get that stretch!

i do this all the time. i have limits just like you do!

with the middle split, just do pancakes (just lay and stretch down), its should really help--i also think carpet helps keep the stretch if you know what i mean.

hope this helps!
