What are some stretches that I can do to get to be able to do the splits and a jazz kick?

lunges always help, just sitting in splits or straddle for a while will help. ask your dance teacher which stretches you should do at home.








p.s this only works if you stretch everyday.
muscles are made of several strands that are similar to rubber bands. Without stretching they get tighter and more rigid. To be able to get to the point where you can do a split or a high kick takes a lot of time and eased stretching.


First, you never want to force a stretch. if a stretch hurts, stop. Forcing a stretch will result in injury or joint problems in the future.


The basic answer for your split is to do as many different stretches as you can so you are sure you're working all possible muscle strands. If you work a group of strands and ignore the rest you will make your muscles weaker in the lon run. Kind of like if a house's foundation is half built of solid concrete and the other half is built of flimsy wood.


You want to ease into a stretch until you feel a pull, hold it until that pull is gone, then go slightly deeper into the stretch. keeping in mind that if you stretch too much in a day you will once again be doing more harm than good. There is no specific stretch that will help more than another because you need to work all the muscle strands.


as for the kick, To be able to kick high and especially hold a kick up requires not only flexibility but strength. you will need to do squats or weight lifting to increase muscle tone and endurance.


And remember: never stretch without warming up and never release a stretch fast.
do as many kinds of stretches as you can. different stretches will work different muscle groups and working as many different muscle groups as possible is the best way to go. seriously, try it. a whole variety of stretches is better than squats or whatever. tho you might wanna mostly do the ones that work your leg muscles as you're mostly using them while doing the splits %26amp; the jazz kick!
